Energy is energy.
Across cultures, traditions, and healing practices, people have developed many different ways of understanding, sensing, directing, and working with the subtle energy that moves within and around us. Reiki is one beautiful system for working with that energy—but it is not the only one.
My own relationship with energy work began in 1994, when I first began studying Reiki as part of my spiritual path. I received my Reiki Master Teacher certification from Jeff Noblett in 1999, and Reiki has remained an important foundation of my practice for more than 30 years.
But my experience with energy didn't stop with Reiki.
Over the decades, I have trained in and explored multiple forms of energy work, both through formal training and through years of spiritual and ceremonial practice. Those experiences have shaped the way I understand energy today: different traditions may give it different names, philosophies, symbols, or techniques, but ultimately energy is energy, and Reiki is simply one way of learning to work with it.
Because of that, I don't approach every session with a rigid formula or assume that every person needs the same technique. I draw from Reiki and my broader background in energy work to create an experience responsive to the person in front of me.
Sometimes that means traditional Reiki. Sometimes the work may involve grounding, centering, energetic clearing or balancing, shielding, sensing, intention, visualization, or other energetic practices. Sometimes the most useful thing we can do is simply become quiet enough for you to notice what you are experiencing within your own body and energetic space.
Energy work is generally gentle, quiet, and deeply personal. Sessions may include light hands-on work, with your consent, or hands held above the body. They can also be performed without physical touch and can be offered remotely.
People experience energy work in many different ways. You might notice warmth, coolness, tingling, heaviness or lightness, emotion, imagery, a sense of movement, or profound relaxation. You might experience very little sensation at all. There is no particular response you are supposed to have, and experiencing energy differently from someone else doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong.
You don't need to understand energy to receive energy work. You don't need to follow a particular spiritual tradition. And you certainly don't need to be able to “feel energy” before you arrive.
One of the principles underlying all of my work is that I am not the source of your healing.
My role is to create an intentional, grounded space; bring the experience and tools I have gathered through decades of practice; and work respectfully with you and your boundaries. Your body, your energy, your intuition, and your choices remain your own.
I believe energy work is at its best when it empowers people to become more aware of themselves rather than convincing them that they need someone else to manage their energy for them.
That philosophy is also why I love teaching energy work.
In addition to individual sessions, I offer Energy Work Basics classes for people who want to explore grounding, centering, shielding, energetic boundaries, sensing and moving energy, and the ethics of working energetically with ourselves and others. I also teach Reiki classes, including Reiki Level 1 and 2, for those who would like to learn that particular system more deeply.
Whether you come to receive energy work or learn how to work with energy yourself, my hope is the same:
that you leave feeling more connected to your own awareness, intuition, and ability to trust what you experience.
